Nail Reconstruction in Blaricum

← All treatments

A damaged, split or partially missing toenail is not only a cosmetic problem — it can also be sensitive and get in the way of a new nail growing. With nail reconstruction at my practice in Blaricum I restore the appearance and the function of the nail, so you can show your feet with confidence again.

In short

What is nail reconstruction?

In nail reconstruction I model a new nail with a special, flexible podology gel on (part of) the nail bed. The gel bonds to the remaining natural nail, is cured and then shaped, so the result looks natural and feels solid.

The prosthetic nail protects the sensitive nail bed and gives your own nail room to keep growing underneath undisturbed.

When is it useful?

Reconstruction is a solution after a trauma (for example a shed or split nail), during recovery from a fungal nail, or after an ingrown nail has been treated and the nail needs to grow back neatly. It also brings relief with a missing piece of nail that keeps catching on socks.

Is there an active infection or inflammation? Then I treat that first; reconstruction follows once the nail is ready for it.

How is the treatment done?

I clean and prepare the nail, apply the gel in layers, cure it and finish the shape neatly. The treatment is painless and you can walk in normal shoes straight away. If you wish, the nail can also be polished.

How long does it last and what next?

A reconstructed nail usually lasts a few weeks and grows along with your own nail. During follow-up appointments I touch up the nail until your own nail has recovered enough. This way I guide the recovery step by step.

Frequently asked questions

Your questions about this treatment answered

Yes. The gel is shaped and coloured so the nail looks natural. If you wish, it can also be polished.

Is the treatment painful?+

No, the treatment is painless. You can walk normally straight away.

How long does the prosthetic nail stay on?+

Usually a few weeks; it grows along with your own nail. During check-ups I touch it up until your own nail has recovered.
